SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The woman who inspired the lead character of the TV show “Scandal” about a high-profile crisis manager is set to speak at the University of Utah.

Officials announced Thursday that Judy Smith would be the keynote speaker for a week-long event exploring issues that affect women.

Smith served as deputy press secretary to President George H. W. Bush and has worked with people like Monica Lewinsky and quarterback Michael Vick as well politicians and companies like NBC.

She is expected to talk at noon Monday about gender equality, women in positions of power and the “Scandal” character loosely based on her, Olivia Pope.
