ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A report says what caused the death of an Albuquerque zoo animal remains unresolved but that a likely possibility is that it was struck and killed when a log in its enclosure came loose.

Authorities previously said they believed the Tasmanian devil at BioPark Zoo died from foul play, and the newly released summary of an investigation report said that and an accidental fall were still considered possible causes.

However, the investigators determined that a log could have slipped and struck the animal, which was found under the log.

Foul play was suspected because a piece of asphalt was found in the enclosure, but the investigators said that piece could have been in the enclosure’s dirt area before the death.

A private investigations firm conducted the investigation for the city.
