MILLER PLACE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a Long Island motorist sideswiped a police officer’s car stopped at a traffic light and continued driving.

The Suffolk County sheriff’s office says it happened Wednesday night on Route 25A in Miller Place.

Police say Deputy Sheriff Sgt. Scott Zimbler was in his patrol car when a Plymouth Neon struck the driver’s side.

They say Vincent Rudolf, of Rocky Point, continued driving another quarter mile before he was stopped by Zimbler.

Police say Zimbler smelled alcohol on Rudolf and noticed his eyes were bloodshot. They say he failed a field sobriety test.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1KwLqK0 ) says a breath test later revealed his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

Zimbler was arraigned on DWI charges and held on $1,000 bail. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
