AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - An Augusta man who served more than 17 years behind bars for raping and trying to kill a 14-year-old girl is going back to prison for assaulting a neighbor.

Lorne Sherwood pleaded guilty Thursday in Kennebec County Superior Court to assault and terrorizing charges stemming from the December attack on the 32-year-old woman.

He was sentenced to a year behind bars for that incident, but was also ordered to serve the remaining 12 years of the sentence he received for the 1995 rape of the Biddeford teenager.

Prosecutors say in the latest attack the 45-year-old Sherwood grabbed the victim, threw her to the ground and put his hand over her mouth after she refused his sexual advances.

The Kennebec Journal (https://bit.ly/1G5wegp ) reports that his lawyer says he is remorseful.
