BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A Mandan man has been charged in federal court with attempted sex trafficking of children.

KXMB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1GqrkOz ) that Travis Koropatnicki made his initial appearance on Thursday.

Court documents allege that Koropatnicki attempted to use a girl he believed to be 14 years old in a commercial sex act in September. Police say he was actually talking to an undercover officer.

He had initially been charged in state court, but those charges were dismissed in lieu of federal charges.

Koropatnicki was released from custody following a detention hearing Thursday. He is being electronically monitored and there are a number of conditions he must follow.

It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
