LITTLETON, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire manufacturer that makes metal castings is planning to shut down its Littleton plant next year and consolidate at its Milford headquarters.

The Caledonian Record reports (https://bit.ly/1BNWhcU) Littleton faces the loss of more than 100 jobs from the move by Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. Inc. Workers will have the option to relocate to Milford, which has 45 current job openings and is anticipating about 80 more.

The company said Thursday that the operating economics of the Littleton facility and its distance from the Milford wax, shell and casting operations is prompting the action.

The company has been in Littleton for 31 years. The plant closed in 2001 during difficult financial times, but community leadership worked to create a training program that ultimately convinced Hitchiner to stay.
