MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to killing his Westchester County neighbor after she found him burglarizing her home.

The Journal News (https://lohud.us/1CGa5HZ ) says Lloyd Lewis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Thursday.

Prosecutors say he killed 85-year-old Emma Gruber, of Mount Vernon, on Feb. 10, 2014.

He faces 22 year to life in prison when he’s sentenced May 14.

Authorities say Lewis broke into Gruber’s home to steal copper pipes. They say he bludgeoned her to death with a piece of plywood when she interrupted him.

She was discovered two days later under a pile of clothes at the bottom of her basement stairs.

Gruber was well known in her neighborhood and at Greater Centennial AME Zion Church, where she was an usher.
