MANISTEE, Mich. (AP) - Officials are looking at a contractor’s attempt to thaw a frozen water line as a possible cause of a fire that destroyed a collection of classic and antique cars.

TV station WPBN-WTOM reports (https://bit.ly/1EmxFd9 ) Friday that a welder was being used at an adjacent property prior to Sunday’s blaze at a garage in western Michigan’s Manistee.

A dozen vehicles inside the garage were considered classic or antique.

Manistee Fire Chief David Bachman tells the television station that the investigation shows the fire starting along an interior wall of the garage near a grounding wire.

An insurance company has hired electrical engineers as part of its investigation into the fire’s origin.
