PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Former Rhode Island House Speaker Gordon Fox reportedly performed legal work for a Providence bar that prosecutors say bribed him for help in obtaining a liquor license.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1BPOGKW ) that Fox, an attorney, represented Shark Sushi Bar & Grill before the Providence Board of Licenses in 2012. The station reports the bar agreed to pay a $350 fine after an underage drinking incident.

Fox pleaded guilty Tuesday to bribery and other charges. He acknowledged receiving $52,500 in 2008 to help grant a liquor license to Shark Sushi Bar when he was the Licenses Board’s vice chairman. Fox left the board in 2009.

One of the bar’s owners says he didn’t know his bar was involved in the Fox case.

Messages seeking comment were left for Fox and his lawyer.
