SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) - The head softball coach and assistant baseball coach at Sapulpa High School has been found dead shortly after being charged with the rape of a student.

Creek County District Attorney Max Cook told reporters Friday that Brad Evans was found dead Thursday after being charged earlier in the day with two counts of second-degree rape. Cook said it appears Evans committed suicide, but that a specific cause of death had not been confirmed.

Cook said the charges against Evans will be dismissed because of his death.

Sapulpa Superintendent Kevin Burr said the 38-year-old Evans was fired Tuesday after school officials were told of the rape investigation.
