ROME, Ga. (AP) - Authorities are searching for an inmate they say escaped from a road crew in northwest Georgia.

The Rome News-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1zTF8sC) that 44-year-old Garrett Terrell Shields was part of a crew checking drains in Floyd County when police say he slipped away from the group Thursday afternoon.

Floyd County police say they were still searching for Shields Thursday night.

Shields is a Floyd County Prison inmate who is serving a 20-year sentence for several felonies committed in Fulton County.

He was last seen wearing a white shirt with a blue collar; pants with one blue stripe running down the side; and an orange sweatshirt.

Floyd County police spokesman Jerome Poole said that if anyone sees a person matching his description, they should call 911 and not approach him.
