ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - Officials say a wheel bearing failure caused a train to derail in Essex Junction, causing traffic delays.

The 53-car train carrying 15 tanker cars of liquefied propane derailed Thursday evening.

New England Railroad spokesman Mike Williams says no flammable gas leaked. He says the derailment was caused by the failure of a wheel bearing that heated up and caused an automatic braking system to activate.

Main Street in the busy, five corners intersection of the village was closed until about 12:30 Friday afternoon.

No injuries have been reported.

Williams said railroad workers were expected to clear the tracks by later in the afternoon.
