PHOENIX (AP) - A man suspected of abetting the 2012 murders of a Paradise Valley couple has been caught nearly a month after fleeing prosecution.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officers arrested 31-year-old Barry Michael Hassell on Friday night after a chase in west Phoenix.

DPS says an officer pursued Hassell after discovering he was driving a stolen vehicle.

Authorities say Hassell abandoned the vehicle near Greenway Road and the I-17.

They say Hassell hid in some bushes and lunged at an officer.

He was subdued with a Taser. Officers say a backpack in the bushes where he was hiding had a loaded gun.

Hassell faces charges of aggravated assault, felony flight and auto theft.

Hassell failed to appear in court Feb. 10 on a first-degree murder charge and a warrant was issued.

He allegedly was the getaway driver for Michael Crane, who’s accused of killing Lawrence and Glenna Shapiro in January 2012.
