NEW YORK (AP) - New York City police say a man with a loaded handgun who refused to drop it has been shot and wounded by two officers in downtown Brooklyn.

Police say the 34-year-old suspect was hit once in the lower stomach and grazed in the left arm following the confrontation with police just before 1 a.m. near the base of the Manhattan Bridge.

They say officers were called to the Amarachi Prime restaurant following reports of a man with a gun.

They say the officers fired four times after the man refused to drop a loaded Star Eibar .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun when confronted by two uniformed officers near the restaurant.

The man is in stable condition. Police didn’t immediately release his name. The officers were treated for ringing in their ear.
