SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - An annual high school dance marathon in upstate New York that raises money for charity is aiming to take in more than $500,000.

More than 800 students from South Glens Falls High School will try keep dancing for hours at school’s gym Saturday. They hope to break last year’s record of raising $583,000. The marathon money is distributed to 44 charities and people in need.

The dance marathon was started in 1978 and has morphed into a monster event consuming the community just south of the Adirondack Mountains.

The marathons start on Friday evenings and run through Saturday evening.
