CLOVER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after fires broke out at the same time in two homes on the same street in Clover.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports (https://bit.ly/1BlSvWu ) the fires were reported shortly before 5:30 Sunday morning.

Clover Fire Chief Charlie Love says when firefighters responded to the scene of the first fire, they saw smoke coming from a house next door.

One home was destroyed, while the second suffered about $50,000 worth of damage. No one was injured.

The chief says that the cause of the fires is suspicious. He says that while fires can sometimes start from heat radiating from a nearby fire, in this case that stretches the imagination.
