NEWARK, Del. (AP) - A woman was struck and killed while crossing a road in Newark, and the driver has been charged with drunken driving.

Newark police say 22-year-old Amanda Hagelstein was killed in the crash early Sunday. Police say she was walking with an acquaintance and attempted to cross Delaware Avenue when she saw a truck approaching.

Hagelstein ran across the road but was struck. She was taken to a hospital where she died. The driver left the scene.

Newark police arrested 21-year-old Kyle Loyd of Newark a short time later. He has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving a crash scene. Loyd was released on a $5,500 bond.

Police didn’t have the name of an attorney for Loyd. A telephone number for Loyd could not be located.
