DAVIS, W.Va. (AP) - The National Youth Science Foundation has received federal approval to acquire a research and education center in Tucker County.

The foundation plans to house a science, technology, engineering and math education center at the Canaan Valley Institute’s facility in Davis. The institute built the center with funding from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.

The federal agency announced its approval of the acquisition last week.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service also had proposed acquiring the facility.

Science foundation executive director Andrew Blackwood tells The Charleston Gazette (https://bit.ly/1aV5NAG ) that he believes his organization’s center will bridge a gap between the traditional school curriculum and careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
