VERMONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say two people are dead and four others injured after a minivan went off a road in Eaton County and hit a tree.

The Eaton County sheriff’s department says 31-year-old driver Melissa Musser and 15-year-old passenger Brenden Pearce died following the crash Sunday evening in Vermontville Township, about 25 miles southwest of Lansing.

The department says a 19-year-old man had potentially life-threatening injuries. It says male passengers ages 56, 30 and 22 were treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.

The department says all six people in the vehicle were residents of Vermontville.

The crash is under investigation, but the department says it believes that alcohol and speed were factors.
