PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (AP) - The body of a missing boater from Prairieville has been found by search and rescue teams along Bayou Manchac in Ascension Parish more than three days after crews first tried to find him.

The body of Allen Fitzgerald, 23, was found Friday, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Authorities say a passenger in the front of the boat said he and Fitzgerald were boating in a 12-foot bateau with a six-horsepower engine the night of April 27 when they ran into problems 3 or 4 miles upstream from the Amite River.

The passenger told investigators the boat started taking on water and that while he was able to swim to shore Fitzgerald was unable to do so. Neither person was wearing a lifejacket.
