ATLANTA (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Christie Christie is scheduled to attend a breakfast event as Georgia Republicans open their state convention later this month.

The Georgia Republican Party said in a statement Friday that the possible presidential contender will speak at a May 15 event in Athens, hours before the state convention officially kicks off there.

Christie joins previously announced speaker and Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio on the list of hopefuls expected in Georgia surrounding the state party convention. Rubio is scheduled to address convention attendees that afternoon.

Attendees also will elect state party leaders and consider resolutions during the two-day convention.
