BIRCH RUN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The father of a young U.S. Army veteran killed in a suspected hit-and-run is appealing to the driver to step forward.

Shawn O’Hearn, who served in Iraq, died last weekend. The 24-year-old jumped from a moving car and was struck by another vehicle in Saginaw County’s Birch Run Township. A funeral is planned Friday in Clio.

O’Hearn’s father, Thomas O’Hearn, tells TV station WEYI (https://bit.ly/1EVophs ) that “accidents are accidents.” But he’d like the driver of the vehicle that hit his son to talk to police.

Randy O’Hearn says he never expected at age 22 to be arranging a casket for his brother.

Anyone with information can call state police at (989) 495-5557.
