BAYONNE, N.J. (AP) - Free weekend shuttle service is available for pedestrians and cyclists who want to cross the Bayonne Bridge.

The service will operate between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in May.

The service helps pedestrians and cyclists cross the span that links Bayonne with Staten Island, New York, during construction.

Shuttle service will only be available on Sundays beginning in June and concluding in October 2015.

The $1.3 billion project to raise the roadway will give larger ships access to New York and New Jersey ports. The new bridge roadway will have wider lanes and a median.
