PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A group opposing a planned Walmart store in Warrenton, Oregon, has filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, alleging the agency shouldn’t have authorized a permit for the project.

The suit filed Thursday on behalf of Clatsop Residents Against Walmart says vital wetlands on the northwestern tip of Oregon will be replaced with store space and parking lots. It says the agency failed to properly assess the environmental impact and should have considered more alternative sites.

The 150,000-square-foot store is expected to open next year on the east side of Highway 101.

Corps spokeswoman Michelle Helms declined comment, saying she has yet to read the lawsuit.
