SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - The Huachuca Canyon is open to visitors again after an aggressive bear was put down in the area.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Q7HwH4) Fort Huachuca officials closed the canyon April 23 when visitors said the bear charged hikers and approached cyclists.

Officials hoped the bear would move on, but he continued to be aggressive and showed no fear of humans. Fort spokesman Tanja Linton said state game and fish officials helped put the animal down about a week after the canyon was closed.

Linton says even though the canyon is open for recreation, visitors should remain cautious and alert.
