BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for trying to hang his wife with a noose tied to their garage ceiling.

The Connecticut Post reports (https://bit.ly/1HZEDFn ) that 42-year-old Corey Dawid of Easton was sentenced Friday in Bridgeport Superior Court. He pleaded no contest to attempted murder and strangulation.

Dawid’s wife’s lawyer says she was too terrified to come to court and read a statement in which she said she believed Dawid would kill her when he gets out of prison. She called her husband a violent man with no regard for human or animal life. She said Dawid choked and raped her before trying to hang her.

Dawid said in court that he was “flabbergasted” by his wife’s comments and that he was a loving husband.
