NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say a man led police on a high-speed chase after stealing a state trooper’s car during a traffic stop in North Platte.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the suspect, who had been handcuffed in the patrol car, managed to drive off in the vehicle with a handcuffed female suspect in the backseat Thursday.

Authorities say the trooper was searching the suspects’ vehicle when they fled in the patrol car. The two were eventually caught after authorities deployed stop sticks to flatten some of the stolen patrol car’s tires.

Both suspects face several charges including possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Officers say they found 1.1 pounds of methamphetamine in the suspects’ vehicle.
