PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A new park and bike path is set to open this weekend in Providence.

State Department of Transportation officials say the George Redman Linear Park on the Washington Bridge over the Seekonk River will be open from dawn to dusk on weekends beginning Saturday.

The park is still under construction, with remaining work including installation of concrete sidewalks, benches and informational signs at the center plaza. The park will be completed in June.

The $22 million project includes an 11-foot-wide bikeway, separate 7-foot-wide walking path and a center plaza with scenic overlooks and greenery.

The park is named after the late George Redman, an East Providence resident and bicycle advocate who played a key role in the creation of the East Bay Bike Path a quarter century ago.
