CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) - A pedestrian has died after being hit by a high-speed Amtrak train in Delaware.

Delaware State Police say 21-year-old Anthony J. Pellerito of Claymont was struck by the Amtrak Acela Express train in Claymont Thursday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say he was on the tracks near the Claymont station.

An Amtrak spokesman says the crash involved southbound Train 2163, a high-speed train with 297 passengers traveling from Boston to Washington, D.C.

The speed of the train at the time of the crash is unknown. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
