ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A Virginia police officer and a civilian have been honored for rescuing a woman who threatened to jump off a bridge last year.

WRC-TV (https://bit.ly/1EHC0af ) reports Mamie Doyle spotted a woman threatening to jump off the Beltway in Alexandria in February 2014. She called 911 and officer Michael Nugent was the first to arrive on the scene. When the woman tumbled over a jersey wall to an icy ledge below, Nugent followed, grabbing hold of the woman’s arm. When she began to struggle, Doyle jumped over the wall herself and pinned the woman to the ledge.

First responders brought all three to safety.

Both Doyle and Nugent were recognized in a ceremony Thursday. Nugent receive the Gold Medal of Valor and Doyle was recognized for her bravery.
