SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A Nissan sports car landed in the San Francisco Bay after colliding with a Maserati.

KNTV reports (https://bit.ly/1FCN4pZ) that witnesses say the cars were racing before the Thursday crash near Candlestick Park, but San Francisco California Highway Patrol says the Nissan driver denies that.

The Nissan was completely submerged in the water but the driver was able to climb out of the bay. He has minor injuries to his head and hand.

CHP says the driver says he was trying to merge right when he saw a car coming up fast and jerked his wheel the other direction.

They say the Maserati driver says he just pulled over to help.

Highway patrol officers are interviewing witnesses.

It is not clear if the Maserati driver was injured.
