NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (AP) - The town of North Topsail Beach continues to pour sand onto its shorefront even as the clock is ticking on permits for the beach rebuilding project.

Local media outlets report that the project began last December and was supposed to be finished by the end of April. But there have been delays because of bad weather and problems with equipment.

Crews have also had to remove larger rocks which have unexpectedly been pumped onto the beach along with sand.

The town’s permits to rebuild the beach expire on May 10th. But the town is asking regulators for permission to continue the work through the end of June.

The work continues while the town’s request for an extension is being reviewed.
