GREEN RIVER, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Highway Patrol is thanking passing motorists who called 911 on Friday morning to report that a trooper was struggling with a suspect following a traffic stop on Interstate 80.

The department reports that a trooper stopped a westbound 2002 Saturn shortly before 10 a.m. Friday for going over 100 mph on the interstate, about 3 miles east of Green River.

The driver of the Saturn, identified as a 19-year-old California man, started to struggle with the trooper. Several witnesses called 911 to report that the trooper needed help.

Three other troopers and deputies from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office responded. The driver was taken into custody and faces charges of speeding and interference with a peace officer. Neither the trooper nor the suspect was injured.
