CLUTE, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a body found in a Southeast Texas river is believed to be a man who was knocked off a bridge a week ago after a vehicle crashed into a stranded vehicle he and another good Samaritan were pushing.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office says the body was found Saturday in the Brazos River near Clute in Brazoria County. Officials had been searching for 43-year-old Puneet Nehra of Sugar Land after he was knocked off the bridge near New Territory on May 3.

The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the stranded vehicle was arrested and charged with intoxicated assault. Officials say he may now face additional charges.
