COVINGTON, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a man who allegedly had been riding in a car with a 14-year-old driver sped off while a trooper questioned the boy, then crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer - killing a second 14-year-old boy.

The crash occurred early Saturday in Covington.

A state police news release says the car had been pulled over for going faster than 100 mph in a 55 mph zone.

While a trooper was interviewing the underage driver outside the vehicle, police say, 21-year-old Brandon Bigner of Franklinton took control of the car and fled.

Bigner was not wearing a seat belt and was seriously injured in the accident two miles from the stop. The boy in the back seat, who had been wearing a seat belt, was killed. The trucker suffered minor injuries.

The initial, 14-year-old driver was booked on speeding and underage DWI charges. He was released into the custody of his parents.

Police say they suspect Bigner had been drinking alcohol too. Charges against Bigner are pending on his release from the hospital.
