PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says it rescued an ailing man from a cruise ship 70 miles south of Cape Hatteras.

A statement from the Coast Guard said the Carnival Pride cruise ship requested a medical evacuation for a 47-year-old passenger around 3 p.m. Saturday. An MH-60 Jayhawk crew from Elizabeth City took off around 4 p.m. and arrived at the ship 40 minutes later.

Officials say the man was taken to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City. Hospital personnel couldn’t provide information on the man’s condition on Sunday.
