MASON, Ohio (AP) - A southwest Ohio conservation group will honor acclaimed wildlife artist John Ruthven.

The Little Miami Conservancy will give its 2015 Legacy Award to Ruthven at its 48th annual dinner meeting May 11 in Mason. The Cincinnati naturalist has been active since well before the conservancy was founded in 1967.

The group says it is honoring Ruthven for a lifetime of work encouraging people to appreciate the gift of nature.

The conservancy seeks to protect and restore the Little Miami River, which flows more than 100 miles through southwest Ohio. The conservancy says it has acquired more than 100 nature preserves along the river and its tributaries.
