LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas of north central Arkansas.

Forecasters say severe thunderstorms were located northwest of Oak Grove Sunday afternoon and were moving northeast at 50 mph.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph and penny size hail were associated with the storms. Forecasters say the hail and strong winds could damage roofs, siding and trees.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in Boone, Marion, Newton and northwestern Searcy counties.

A flash flood warning remains in effect for Johnson, Logan and Newton counties.

Forecasters say showers and thunderstorms are building in an area that has already received 2 or more inches of rain since Saturday. The ground is nearly saturated and cannot hold much more rainfall, making flash flooding more likely.
