NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - An Adams County woman will serve five years in prison for the death of man she ran over with her vehicle in 2014.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1zNUohm ) that 26-year-old Alyssa Brooke Standeford pleaded guilty Thursday in Adams County Circuit Court to manslaughter in connection with the Aug. 4, 2014, death of 25-year-old Kory DeWitt.

Circuit Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders sentenced Standeford to 10 years with five years to be served and five years suspended.

Standeford called the sheriff’s office saying she had run over DeWitt, who had been in the vehicle with her. Standeford reportedly told investigators DeWitt had gotten out of the vehicle while she tried to park it and did not realize he was in the way until she had run over him.
