TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - One woman died and two men were in critical condition after the stolen truck they were in crashed into a utility pole.

The News Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1PBNFJh ) that the early Sunday morning crash happened after police recognized the stolen vehicle and started to pursue it.

Takoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool says the vehicle was from a Lakewood carjacking and the three people appeared to be in their 20s.

Lakewood police spokesman Chris Lawler’s account of the carjacking states that a 62-year-old man returned to his apartment to find the trio in his vehicle. After asking them to move, the man was punched and kicked in the face. He was taken to the hospital with severe head injuries.

Tacoma Public Utilities said on Facebook that the wreck caused about 30 people to lose power.
