PORT SULPHUR, La. (AP) - Authorities say a 61-year-old River Ridge man has died in a boating accident in Port Sulphur.

Multiple news outlets report Gary Folks and his friend, an unidentified 73-year-old Metairie resident, were aboard an 18-foot fiberglass boat when they lost steering and were ejected Saturday morning.

A rescue team found Gary Folks’ body several hours later near Rattlesnake Bayou, about 12 miles south of Happy Jack.

The 73-year-old man was rescued by a passing boater and brought to shore by a Sheriff’s Office boat before he was evaluated by medics.

Authorities say neither man was wearing a life jacket when they were thrown overboard. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of Folks’ death.
