AMITE, La. (AP) - An Amtrak train bound for New Orleans struck a flatbed truck at a railway crossing in Amite, killing the truck’s driver and injuring two people on the train.

Multiple news outlets report the crash happened Sunday afternoon about 75 miles north of New Orleans. Amite Fire Chief Bruce Cutrer says the train sustained significant engine damage in the collision and was disabled. The driver of the flatbed truck has not been identified.

Two people on the train suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital. Cutrer said passengers were taken to a nearby church to await buses sent by Amtrak to take them to their destination

It was unclear where the train originated. Cutrer said authorities had not determined the reason for the crash.
