PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh police say a man failed to rob a downtown convenience store when a clerk refused a demand for cash from the suspect, who was wearing a plastic bag over his head.

Police say 47-yea-rold Anthony Riegel, of Butler, was spotted by police a short distance away from the 7-Eleven, shortly after the robbery attempt just before midnight Saturday.

Police say Riegel was wearing the bag which had a hole ripped in it so he could see when the handed the clerk a note demanding money. Riegel left empty-handed when the clerk refused.

Police say they found the bag and the note in Riegel’s pocket when he was arrested.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Riegel, who remained jailed Monday on a robbery charge. He faces a preliminary hearing May 18.
