HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Fees for group picnic shelter reservations will be going up next year at 14 of the 16 lakes managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Huntington District.

The corps says no fee increases will occur at the shelters this year.

It says starting in 2016 the fee will be $70 for a picnic shelter without electricity and $80 for a shelter with electricity. The shelters are within the corps’ Huntington district in West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, Ohio and Virginia.

Reservations will remain at $45 at Dillon Lake in Ohio and $50 at Fishtrap Lake in Kentucky. Fees will increase to $60 without electricity and $70 with electricity at Ohio’s Paint Creek Lake.

Park ranger John Nichol says the increases are necessary to provide fair competition with other shelter providers.
