NEW YORK (AP) - Police are investigating separate attacks on two women in Manhattan’s Union Square.

The first attack happened just after 7:30 p.m. Monday in Union Square Park.

Police say a 28-year-old woman noticed a man looking at her. Police say the man then pulled a hammer out of a bag and struck the woman on the head.

The second attack happened about 10 minutes later on West 17th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues. Police say a 33 year-old woman was struck from behind and received a scalp wound.

Police say both women were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
