BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - Court documents show a Bellingham-area woman was drunk when officers witnessed her setting her own home on fire with her 12-year-old daughter inside.

Thirty-eight-year-old Casey Ann Evans has been charged with first-degree arson in connection with last Wednesday’s fire.

The Bellingham Herald reports (https://is.gd/QJi3yd) a fire investigator and detective caught her lighting the fire during a stakeout. Charging papers say when she was given a breath test, she tested at nearly three times the legal limit for driving.

The Whatcom County sheriff’s office and fire marshal’s office had been investigating a series of small fires near Evans’ home. Officials say Evans was the one who called authorities about these fires, which included a utility pole, a transport trailer and multiple grass fires.

She has denied setting the fires.
