COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A Macon resident has received her bachelor’s degree more than five decades after she started college.

The Columbia Daily Tribune (https://bit.ly/1J4AtwP ) reports 77-year-old Laurel Dale received a bachelor’s degree in general studies, with a minor in history on Saturday from Columbia College.

Dale attended the University of Missouri for one year in the late ‘50s. She returned to college about three years ago and finished her studies through online classes.

Dale spent several decades as a gemologist and later worked at two banks, but she says she always felt a strong desire to get her degree. Dale says she might try to use her degree to create a program for senior citizens.
