BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) - At least seven people have been injured in a 5-alarm fire that broke out at an apartment complex in Bessemer.

Multiple news outlets report firefighters responded to blaze at the Westlake apartments Monday evening. Bessemer Fire Battalion Chief Michael Brannon says several people got trapped on their balconies and were forced to jump. Seven people were transported to local hospitals with burn or fall injuries. At least one victim was suffering third-degree burns.

Crews extinguished the flames shortly before 9 p.m. All of the building’s residents have been accounted for.

One building has been destroyed by fire. Firefighters say when they arrived, four units were involved, but by the end, all 16 units received damage.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
