ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The Asheville City Council is scheduled to vote on buying body cameras for the police department.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/1bKILMG) the City Council is set to vote on the purchase of 60 cameras that could be worn on various parts of the body, including the head or shoulder. The vote is scheduled during a regular Tuesday council meeting.

Interim Police Chief Steve Belcher told council members that the cameras would cost up to $90,000, a price tag that includes software and storage. The purchase would be the first step in a three-year plan to buy cameras for all sworn officers.
