WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - An Oak Island man arrested for aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Wilmington StarNews (https://bit.ly/1EzqUPX ) reports 34-year-old Christopher Lee Funk admitted to the crime Monday in federal court. Funk was arrested at his home in May 2014 after a helicopter pilot reported being targeted by the laser pointer, nearly blinding her and making it difficult to safely land. The Oak Island Police Department says Funk was intoxicated when he was arrested.

Funk is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 3. He faces up to five years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
